Eco-Chic Initiatives

Environmental awareness is part of life in Washington DC and part of the business culture at the Capitol Hill Suites. The Capitol Hill Suites is committed to "going green" and reducing our carbon footprint. Environmental responsibility is not only good for the community but good for our business.

We strive to minimize our hotel’s operational impact on the environment through resource conservation and best practices without detracting from the guest experience. Our mission is to work diligently to lessen our waste and conserve natural resources, particularly through energy and water conservation. Environmental responsibility is integral to our culture and we are eager to share with you our Eco-Chic Initiative.

From the inception of our renovation, being eco-friendly was part of the process and design decisions. Colors selected for both the interior and exterior are earth tones: relaxing teals and chocolates with nature themed artwork. Windows were replaced with double paned, tinted windows allowing for more energy efficiency. We have eco-friendly bath amenities. We know our guests will appreciate the additional environmentally, responsible efforts.

Eco-Chic Facts

• We have replaced shower heads with low-flow water saving ones, which reduce water consumption by 50 to 60% while still allowing guests to enjoy a powerful and invigorating shower.
• During our renovation we started the process of changing every lightbulb in the building to a 3rd generation brighter – more energy efficient sustainable compact bulb, saving substantial kilowatt hours.
• We recently converted from paper goods in our continental breakfast to china and silver and purchased an energy efficient dishwasher. Whenever we add or replace an appliance in the future, we will seek out the most energy efficient brand or model.
• All rooms are now 100% smoke free.
• In addition to the entire hotel receiving new windows, new HVAC boiler equipment was purchased providing better energy efficiency and fewer emissions. All suites now also have individual climate controls.
• All hotel literature is printed on recycled products with soy based inks.
• You can participate in helping our efforts to conserve by voluntarily using our linen and towel re-use program in our suites.
• The coffee we serve at the Capitol Hill Suites is Fair Trade certified and Rainforest Alliance approved.
• Capitol Hill Suites has implemented a back of the house paper recycling program that will grow to include plastics and glass in the future.
• On a monthly average the hotel will see a savings of 20% of the hotel’s energy costs and natural gas costs.
